Stone Veneers and More in Albuquerque

The timeless appearance of a brick or natural stone surface can enhance the look of your property, whether it’s on your exterior walls, installed on a patio, or inside the home. That’s right; people are using brick and stone masonry in their homes at a higher rate, giving interiors an enhanced rustic or modern look—depending on the material and application used.

At Lujan & Sons, we’ve known that masonry works just as well on the interior of a home as it does on the exterior. In fact, we’ve been doing it for decades. Something as simple as a durable stone face on a fireplace can transform a room into something you can’t wait to show off to friends and neighbors.

What is Interior Masonry?

Masonry, in general, is using materials like brick, stone, marble, granite, travertine, limestone, cast stone, concrete block, glass block, stucco, tile, and cob, layered with mortar and stacked in an extremely durable construction.

Unlike exterior masonry, interior construction doesn’t usually use an entire slab of stone or whole brick in its installation, opting instead for something called a stone veneer. These are panels of pre-attached rock that are fastened to walls to create an affordable, realistic stone surface on fireplaces, backsplashes, and other areas where only a thin layer is needed.

These stone veneer panels are less costly than a ground-up interior masonry project, and installation can be even more affordable with a faux stone veneer, which is the same thing but made of realistic, imitation stone.

Whether you’re having an entire interior rock wall installed or a series of stacked stone veneer panels, interior masonry can add elegance and variation to a living space.

Indoor Applications of Masonry

Though masonry fireplaces are the most popular of interior masonry elements, there are several other unique applications for the use of brick and stone inside your home. For example, master bathroom shower and tub surrounds, stone bars in basements, wine cellars, kitchen cooking areas, and brick or stone accent walls have been very popular throughout the years.

Here is a list of ideas to draw from when planning an interior masonry project:

  • Stone Bar Fronts
